# The agent's Playground

> Talk to your agent in a test chat before your customers see it, check which tools and sources it used in each reply and choose which version you are testing.

The **Playground** is a chat where you talk to your agent as if you were a customer, without writing to anyone for real. It opens from **Chat Agent** in the side menu, answers with your agent's **latest saved version** and shows which tools and sources it used in each reply, so you can tune the configuration before publishing it on WhatsApp.

## Test your agent

### Go to "Chat Agent"
In the side menu. On desktop you will see the settings on the left, the test chat in the middle
and your channels on the right; on a phone, the settings open from the gear icon.
### Write like a customer would
### Check the reply
Under the agent's reply use "Show tools used" and "Show sources".
### Adjust, save and test again
Change the configuration, save a version and the test chat starts over with it. See [Versions
    and publishing](/agent/versions).

> **Note**
Only admins can use the Playground. To change the agent's configuration from here you also need
  permission to edit the agent.

## Tools and sources

**"Show tools used"** shows what the agent did to answer, for example:

| Tool | What it does |
| -------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Search knowledge base | Searches your [Memory](/agent/knowledge) |
| Search products | Searches your [catalog](/agent/products) |
| Check availability | Looks for free slots for an appointment |
| Book / Reschedule / Cancel appointment | Manages the appointment |
| Send resource | Sends a [resource](/agent/resources) |
| Transcribe audio / Understand image | Understands voice notes and photos |

**"Show sources"** shows the passages from your documents it used; "Open" shows the original.

## Versions in the Playground

Above the chat you will see the version it answers with (labeled "Active"). If you pick another version there, it is **restored**: your configuration goes back to how it was in that version. To publish a version on a channel, use the channel bar; see [Versions and publishing](/agent/versions).

## Good to know

- **"New chat"** starts a test conversation from scratch. The chat also restarts when you save a new version or switch agents.
- **You are the test customer**: test conversations are created under your name, not as a new contact.
- **There is no wait before replying**: in the Playground the agent answers right away, even if you set a "Max wait before replying".
- **The funnel is simulated**: if the conversation moves into a stage handled by another of your agents, the next reply comes from that agent.
- The chat is always WhatsApp-styled; you don't choose the channel.

## FAQ

### Where do I test my agent before publishing it?

In "Chat Agent", in the side menu. There you get a WhatsApp-style test chat that answers with your agent's latest saved version, without writing to any customer.

### Can I see why the agent answered something?

Yes. Under each reply use "Show tools used" to see what it did (search products, check availability, book) and "Show sources" to see which documents it took the information from.

### Does the test chat answer with my unsaved changes?

No. It answers with the latest saved version. Save a version, without publishing it on your channels if you don't want your customers to see it yet, and test it.
