# Save versions and publish the agent per channel

> Every time you save your agent a version is created. Publish it on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or the widget, choose which version answers on each channel and roll back.

Source: https://docs.watsi.ai/en/agent/versions

Every time you save your agent's configuration a **version** is created: a snapshot of how the agent was at that moment. Versions let you test changes without affecting your customers, **publish** a version on each channel (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or the widget) and **roll back** to an earlier version if something did not turn out as expected.

## Save a version

### Make your changes
### Click "Save"
### Name and describe the version
"Version name" and "Version description" (up to 200 characters) are suggested by AI; you can
change them. The name is optional: without one, the version shows as `v12 · Personality`, for
    example.
### Choose which channels it is published on
In "Update on channels" your connected channels (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Widget) are
selected. Channels that are not connected appear disabled with "Connect the integration first".
The new version always applies to the Playground.
### Click "Save version"

> **Test before publishing**
The [Playground](/agent/playground) answers with the latest saved version. To test a change
without your customers seeing it, untick the channels in "Update on channels", save, test in the
test chat and then publish the version from each channel's history. A channel you untick keeps
answering with the version it already had.

## What reaches your customers, and when

| Change | When your customers see it |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------- |
| Agent configuration (instructions, Q&A, rules, funnel…) | When you publish the version on that channel |
| "Max wait before replying" and "On for new conversations" | As soon as you save |
| [Memory](/agent/knowledge) and [Resources](/agent/resources) files | As soon as they are uploaded |
| Changes you did not save | Never |

## Choose each channel's version

In the channel bar, to the right of the Playground (on desktop), each channel has its switch and its "Version history".

- **Turn the agent on in a channel**: switch the channel on; it is enabled with the Playground's current version. Confirm in "Enable agent on WhatsApp" (or the channel you chose).
- **Switch versions**: in "Version history", pick another version and confirm "Switch active WhatsApp version".
- **Turn the agent off in a channel**: confirm "Disable WhatsApp agent".

Each channel can only be connected to one agent at a time; if another agent has it, you will see, for example, "WhatsApp is already connected to another agent".

## Roll back to an earlier version

- **On a channel**: open its "Version history" and pick the earlier version. The channel starts answering with it.
- **As your draft**: in the version selector above the test chat, pick a version. That **restores** it: your configuration goes back to how it was in that version and the Playground answers with it. To get it to your customers, save and publish it.

> **Tip**
You can also pin a version per funnel stage, so chats in that stage are handled with it. See
  [Funnel](/agent/funnel).

## FAQ

### Do my changes reach customers as soon as I make them?

No. Saving creates a version that always applies to the Playground; it only reaches a channel when you publish it there, either from "Update on channels" when saving or from the channel's version history. Changes you don't save go nowhere.

### Can I go back to an earlier version?

Yes. On the channel, open "Version history" and pick the earlier version; the channel switches to it. You can also restore it as your draft from the version selector in the test chat.

### Can a different version answer on each channel?

Yes. Each channel (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Widget) has its own active version. A channel can only be connected to one agent at a time.
