# Conversation usage, top-ups and automatic recharge

> Check how many conversations you have left and how many each agent uses, buy a top-up at your plan's rate and turn on automatic recharge so you never run dry.

Under **Usage** you see how many conversations you have left, how many each agent uses day by day, and from there you buy more. A **top-up** is a one-time payment at your plan's extra-conversation rate and **never expires**. With **automatic recharge**, watsi tops you up whenever your balance drops below a number you choose, with a monthly cap so you never overspend.

## The Usage page

Open **Usage** from the sidebar (the **Billing & conversations** page). There you'll find:

- **Conversations available** — your current balance and the **Buy conversations** button.
- **Your plan** — what it includes, when it renews and the options to change or cancel it.
- **Automatic recharge** — its status and settings.
- **Daily usage breakdown** and **Conversations by agent** — grouped by hour, day, week or month, with **Chats**, **Messages**, **Received**, **Sent by human**, **Sent by watsi** and **Billed conversations** columns.

The sidebar also shows a summary of your used and remaining conversations.

## Buy a top-up

> **Note**
  You need an active plan to buy additional conversations. Without a plan, the button reads **Buy a
  plan**.

### Open the purchase
### Pick the amount
    Move **Amount to load** or type the amount. **You get** shows how many conversations that buys
    at your plan's rate. You can buy from 100 to 10,000 conversations.
### Pay
    Click the buy button and complete the payment. It's a one-time payment, no subscriptions, never
    expires.

## Automatic recharge

### Open the settings
    In **Usage**, on the **Automatic recharge** card, turn on **Enable automatic recharge**.
### Set the three values
    **Recharge when below**: how many remaining conversations trigger a recharge. **Recharge up
    to**: the target balance; we only charge the difference. **Monthly cap**: the most that can be
    recharged automatically in a month.
### Save

> **Warning**
  If your balance is already below the threshold, saving charges your card right away. Automatic
  recharge charges your saved card; if the charge fails three times in a row, it turns itself off
  and we let you know.

## If you run out of conversations

If your plan's conversations run out, your agent keeps replying on a courtesy margin; once it's used up, AI replies pause until you buy conversations or your plan renews. All the details in [Plans and conversations](/getting-started/plans-and-conversations).

### Do top-ups expire?

No. Conversations you buy in a top-up never expire and are used after your plan's conversations.

### What do top-up conversations cost?

Your plan's extra-conversation rate. You can buy from 100 to 10,000 conversations in a single payment.
