# Can my WhatsApp number get banned if I use watsi?

> watsi connects through Meta's official API. What actually puts your WhatsApp number at risk, how the 24-hour window and templates work, and what watsi handles for you.

watsi connects your number to Meta's **official WhatsApp API**, both with [Coexistence](/whatsapp/coexistence) and with a [dedicated number](/whatsapp/business-api), so using it doesn't put your number at risk by itself. What can get it banned or limited by Meta is using modified versions or unofficial APIs on the same number and writing to people who didn't agree to receive your messages. watsi follows WhatsApp's rules for you: the 24-hour window, approved templates and Meta's delivery limits.

## What puts your number at risk

> **Warning**
**Don't use modified versions of WhatsApp or unofficial APIs** on a number connected to watsi.
Mixing them with the official connection is what can end in the number being banned.

- **Writing to people who didn't give you permission.** WhatsApp requires your contacts to have agreed to receive messages from your business. Don't upload cold databases to a campaign.
- **Sending a lot of marketing to people who don't engage.** WhatsApp limits how many marketing templates a person receives from a business, especially when they're unlikely to engage.
- **Low-quality templates.** If many people block or report a template, Meta can pause it.

## The 24-hour window

WhatsApp only allows free-form messages during the **24 hours** after the customer's last message. After that, the chat shows **WhatsApp window closed**: to write again you need to send a Meta-**approved template**, which reopens the conversation.

watsi applies this rule automatically: the agent and your team reply freely within the window, and follow-ups that fall outside it go out as a template.

## Message templates

- Meta reviews every template before you can use it; they're usually approved within 24 hours.
- If Meta pauses a template for low quality, watsi tells you ("Meta paused this template due to low quality. Use another template for now.") and doesn't send it.

## What watsi takes care of in your campaigns

- **Permission confirmation:** before sending a campaign you confirm your contacts agreed to receive messages from your business on WhatsApp.
- **Automatic exclusions:** contacts without WhatsApp, blocked contacts, people who unsubscribed, personal chats, duplicates and contacts already in another campaign are left out.
- **Meta's limits:** if Meta limits delivery or a person turned off marketing from your business, watsi doesn't retry right away, and anyone who unsubscribes stops receiving campaigns.
- **Paced sends:** watsi spreads bulk sends over time instead of firing them all at once.

## If you use Coexistence

With Coexistence there's an extra risk that isn't a ban but a disconnection: **open the WhatsApp Business app at least every 14 days**. If you don't, Meta disconnects the number from watsi and you have to connect it again from scratch.

## Block a contact

If someone sends you spam, block them from the chat: watsi stops writing to them and the contact leaves your inbox.

## FAQ

### Is watsi an official WhatsApp API?

Yes. watsi connects your number through Meta's official API (WhatsApp Cloud API), either with Coexistence or with a dedicated number. It doesn't use automated WhatsApp Web or modified versions.

### What can get my number banned by Meta?

Using modified versions of WhatsApp or unofficial APIs on the same number, and sending bulk messages to people who didn't agree to receive them. Respect the 24-hour window and use approved templates to write first.

### Can I message a customer who hasn't written to me in days?

Only with a template approved by Meta. After 24 hours since the customer's last message, WhatsApp doesn't allow free text; the template reopens the conversation.
